Update #11 - 12/22/2019

Hi all. DiamondDust132 here, lead for Team Requiem. Boy, it's been awhile, huh? Over a year in fact. This probably isn't the update you all were either hoping for or expecting, but there's really no point lying or sugarcoating things.

Q: Where the heck is Passion High?!

A: First and foremost, I'd like to apologize for the lack of news. I get words alone barely count for anything, but I really am sorry. I know a lot of you have been waiting patiently for some kind of update on the game. I've been struggling on what to do with this project, and I wasn't quite sure how to word this. The feedback the game has gotten has been incredible considering it's still in a VERY beta state. I seriously never imagined the game would attract any sort of attention, let alone what it's gotten. Thank you so much for taking the time to play it.

Still, we at Team Requiem have come to realize that the scope of the game has become too large for our (presently) two person team to manage. While we could always cut down on content and even routes, the workload is (and would remain) too much to bear. As such, we have put Passion High on indefinite hiatus while fine-tune our craft on smaller projects. Passion High was always a (no pun intended) passion project for me, but I didn't realize how daunting creating a visual novel was when I first presented the idea. To those that donated to the project, thank you. Rest assured that your funds did help greatly in creating content, and we don't plan on wasting your hard work.

Q: Does that mean Passion High is dead?

A: No. We still wish to finish the game but only when we can give it the care and attention it rightfully deserves. For that, we would need both a complete team of inspiried individuals as well as the resources. Two people alone simply cannot produce a quality visual novel of Passion High's scale in a reasonable timeframe. To be further specific, even if we had the script and the sprites, that would still leave new backgrounds, CG art, music, etc. All that is simply not something we could promise you all in either good faith or a timely manner. All of the work we've done thus far will not be scraped, so we won't be starting from scratch if and when we decide to undertake the project again.

Q: What about Passion High 3.0?

A: When we halted the project, only the sprites for Sora, Fumi, and Makoto were done. While I did heavily update everyone's routes, I haven't released the next version of the game due to missing so many new sprites. If you guys still want it to at least see what I was working on, I'd be more than willing to release it. It'd either be a mishmash of sprites or me going back to the old ones.

Q: Are you guys working on anything then?

A: Indeed. We are working on a MUCH smaller project to showcase our skills. It's much farther along than Passion High, and we hope to give you all more information on it soon. Making visual novels is still something we fully intend to do.

Again, let me apologize. The blame rests squarely on my shoulders, not my artist's. I asked her to do a TREMENDOUS amount of work, a workload that no one person should be asked to do. Writing a script is one thing. Asking someone to churn out sprite after sprite is another.

That's unfortunately it for now. Once again, let me apologize for keeping you all in the dark so long. If you have any further questions or just want to chew my head off, leave a comment or shoot me one in our Discord.
